LOC # 43 - Upcycle

Hello my crafty friends,

This weeks challenge over at Left of Center is to upcycle, and our sponsor is Meljen's Designs. So many wonderful images to choose from but when i saw Steampunk Girl I knew she would be perfect for my upcycle project.

I've used a sardine tin to make a little shadow box for my steampunk girl. This one is different than the other tins I have collected as it's goldish in color.  I have also used old book pages for my back ground and my butterflies.  If you've stopped by the challenge blog you will notice that my sample has changed from when I sent in my pic there.  I felt my first attemp was too plain. So I added some bronze glitter glue around the inside of the tin. Punched out more butterflies, changed my flower color and added a bunch of browntone gems. A lot more fun I think.
Please join us over at LOC in upcycling somethign this week!

A Friendship Hop For Lisa

Hello my crafty friends,

Today a group of us are having a surprise hop for our friend and fellow crafting enthusiast Lisa. I hope you can join in the fun and hop around to see all of our creations for Lisa.

I've used an image drawn by my friend Charina.  You can visit Charina's blog to see what else she's working on and visit her shop to see what digital stamps you are going to want to add to your wish list.

I've colored this lovely mermaid with pencils and fussy cut her out to add to several layers of DP on my card.

Here's the blog hop list, make sure to visit and give a little love to everyone :)

LOC #41 & PYG #15

Hello my crafty friends, today a have two new challenges to share with you.

The first one is from Left of Center Challenges. The theme this week is "inspired by a song" and our amazing sponsor is A Day for Daisies.  My project isn't LOC this week, I went with the theme instead. I've used Freehand Butterfly 1.  I printed the butterfly 3 times and cut out. I've used glimmer mist to color my butterflies and then added them to my journal where I've used water color crayons to make my rainbow background.

My song for this page is The Rainbow Connection.

My next journal page is for the new challenge at Punk You Girl Challenges.  The theme is anything goes but I decided to go ahead and be inspired by a song again. Our fabulous sponsor this month is The East Wind. I've use Lucy-Loo Attitude. I thought she fit perfectly for one of my favorite songs by Halestorm.

I used glimmer mists to create the background. I colored Lucy in pencils and cut her out to add to my page. I wrote the song lyrics on some CS and cut them out to add to the page too.

So what are you waiting for, come join the fun.   LOC - inspired by a song and  PYG - anything goes.

Smudgefest Day 7 - Synonymous Sunday

It's the last day of the Smudgefest over at Smeared and Smudged, I've had a blast creating everyday.  For today's challenge they gave a Smeared Ink image to play with, Mary.

I've colored her with pencils and fussy cut her out to layer on my card.  Thanks for visiting and I hope you've enjoyed Smudgefest as much as I have.  Happy creating!

Smudgefest Day 6 - Saturday Splatter

Only a couple more days of Smudgefest 2014 at Smeared and Smudged :(  Today's challenge is Saturday Splatter - we get to have some messy fun!  I've been pretty messy all week long and it's been so awesome!

For this project I started with a piece of chipboard and cut it into a giant tag shape. I smeared some gesso on it to create a textured background. Then (when it was nearly dry) I used about 7 different color glimmer mists until I achieved the back ground I wanted. While that part was drying I colored Luna from the Women of Power set at Smeared Ink. I attached her with foam tape and then added a few gems, glitter and ribbons with some bones from my stash. I love how this turned out and the picture just doesn't do it justice. I may have to add another pic in the morning when I can shoot it outside in the natural light.

Smudgefest Day 5 - Flight of Fancy

It's day 5 of the Smudgefest at Smeared and Smudged and I'm having a blast, but I'm beyond tired from so many late nights stamping.  Next year I really have to take some vacation days during Smudgefest :)  So this is going to be a quick post for day 5.  The challenge theme for today is Flight of Fancy and they asked for a project that features wings.

I've used Succubus 5 from Smeared Ink.  I've colored her with pencils and cut her out to add to my mini journal page.  I wanted to create a night sky for her to be looking out upon.
Thanks for stopping by, don't forget to join in the fun at Smeared and Smudged, there are still fabulous prizes to be won!

Smudgefest Day 4 - Toil and Trouble

It's day 4 of the Smudgefest over at Smeared and Smudged. Today's challenge theme is Toil and Trouble. We had to pick at least 3 of the potions from the cauldron.

Lots to choose from, but then you have to decide how to make them all work together.  For this challenge I decided to work in my mini-journal. This is the perfect size journal to play with :)  Both the pages together give you a play area of about 5.5" x 4.25".

I started with misting the pages with mint green spray. I guess I didn't shake it well enough cause I didn't get the glittery sparkle that I got yesterday when I used it on my peacock page. Then I used a stencil and brushed over it with black ink.  Well the ink looks more grey....
so I did the direct to paper technique around the edges with the black ink pad and then also stamped my word "listen" in black ink.  My image is Tattoo Fairy Plain from Smeared Ink.  I colored her with pencils and gave her silver hair (my metal?) and a silver edge to her wings. Just in case I also added a metal brad that has a layer of glitter on it.  I also added some green glitter glue to her wings.

Smudgefest Day 3 - Wicked Wednesday

It's day 3 of the Smeared and Smudged Smudgefest. Today's challenge is Wicked Wednesday and they gave us a photo inspiration.

I chose to pull a few bits of inspiration from this photo.  First off I wanted feathers, so lucky for me I have The Symbology of Angels set from Smeared Ink. I used Vanity Angel, not only does he have fabulous wings he also appears to be strutting....which is what peacocks love to do.  I also loved the colors so I've used several sprays to create the background. I found a random feather stamp in my stash (I think from Comotion - anyone remember that company?) and I stamped that all over the background as well.

Smudgefest Day 2 - Terrifying Tuesday

Welcome back for day 2 of Smudgefest at Smeared and Smudged.  You still have time to join in the fun, there are prizes everyday!!  For day 2 the challenge is to create a project showcasing your favorite image. Well I have so many favorite Smeared Ink images it was hard to choose.  I finally decided on one of the Zombie Pinups - Shy.

I've made a journal page to showcase this image. I've used glimmer mist sprays to create the background. To me it almost looks like rotting flesh, but when I asked my son he couldn't see it. He said "well maybe sunburned flesh"   ug boys!  Anyway I'm happy with my fleshy page and my Shy zombie.... what could be more terrifying than a beautiful woman who turns into a zombie when you least expect it?!?

Smudgefest Day 1 - Mixed Media Monday

Hello my friends!  Today is the first day of Smudgefest 2014, it's the 4th annual week-long challenge and I'm so exited to play along this year.  Check out Smeared and Smudged for more info on this super fun challenge. The first challenge this year is to use at least 3 coloring mediums on your project.  I've decided to create a journal page and here are the items I have used.

After gesso-ing my page I started spraying with my distress marker spritzer. Then I used my ink pad around the edge of the page then I sprayed some dylusions sprays (and a wet paintbrush) to get the drips down the page.  I used my colored pencils to color my Toxic Ballerina from Smeared Ink.

I added a bit of washi tape and added my ballerina to the page with some foam tape.  This wasn't the page that I had planned in  my head but I'm happy with how it turned out AND I got to have some messy fun!  Head on over to Smeared and Smudged to check out all the entries and join in the fun!

LOC #39 - Christmas in August

Hello dear friends,
It's time for a brand new challenge over at Left of Center Challenges.  This week our wonderful sponsor is Ike's Art and our theme is Christmas in August.  As I was deciding which image to use this one jumped out at me.  This lovely creature's expression is just how I feel during the Christmas season.
I've colored Tooth and Claw from Ike's Art with colored pencils and cut him out to add on my journal page.  To create the background I scribbled with a gold tone gelato, then used a wet paintbrush to wash the page.  It was my first use of my new gelatos so I ended up having to add a bit more color. You can't really tell from the photo but the gold has shine to it. I couldn't find my holly leaves and berries so I improvised. I used the little swirl stamp as my leaves and a pencil eraser to stamp my berries :)
While I was trying to figure out how many days till Christmas I found many count down sites...who knew there were so many...  bleh.
Thanks for visiting and don't forget to head on over to LOC to see the DT's creations and join in on the fun.

BTW: Sorry to say my post is a bit late due to the back to school rush going on here, I can't believe it's already that time of year.  So there is now 144 days till Christmas....bwuahahaha.
